Studio Day with Darkiepo Studios

August 15th 2010 10am – 9pm

Our First Studio Day event!

Studio Day is your chance to get a shoot with two super awesome published photographer people at a insanely low price of $50. Basically the event will work in the same way some group shoot events work. After paying your deposit you can work out the schedule of when you would like to shoot with Laura and when you would like to shoot with Eric. Both will be booking the day in 1 hour time slots. Eric and Laura will be maintaining different schedules but times will be negoiated for convenience and to make the shoot work with whatever make up and such is needed.

Please note: your schedule is an estimate. On the day adjustments will be made as needed.

What kind of shoot do you get for $50?
Professionally shot and retouched photos delivered to you for use in print and online. You will receive 3 images of your choice from the shoot. Additional images are $10 a piece.

What about Make-Up and Hair?
Professional Make up Artists and Hair Stylists will be available for a fee. You would book with them seperately either before or during your shoot. It is advised that you book you make up at a time before your shoot to allow for more shooting time.

What about wardrobe?
There is some wardrobe available for use at the studio, but it is advised that you bring your own. This of course is dependant on whatever you and the photographers decide to shoot.

What if a friend wants to be in the photos with me?
If you are a duo or a group you would pay $25 for each addional person in the photos. You would not be allotted any additional time and the photos would be of the groups and not of individuals.

When it comes to photos I am an obsessive compulsive hoarder. I almost never delete anything. Even some of the worst outtakes get kept. I mean why not its just digital space right. And occasionally I get the urge to go back and play with something older and create something new out of it. Over a year ago I made this image of Dark Eden. We really only shot for ten minutes or so but the lighting was fun. I only made the one image of the shoot back then though. So this morning for fun I made the above second image. I really like the way it turned out and the two of them together work really well I think.

Cleveland Pride 2010

This weekend is Cleveland Pride. I was asked to be the official photographer for the festival and I will be heading up there this weekend for the party. There will be a vendor table where you can buy prints of my work and I will be around the different events shooting all day.

On friday before pride Bella Sin and I will be hosting a special little event. I will be doing short Glam shoots all day for the crazy low price of $50 including Hair and MakeUp by Bella Sin.

Hot Pink

I am not an event photographer, it’s not that I don’t like it. I really enjoy it actually. I just don’t end up doing it that often and I don’t really have the right equipment for it. My friend Bella Sin seems to want to change that. She asked me to shoot the Hot Pink Burlesque show this last weekend and then again to be an official photographer for Cleveland Pride in June.

I shot pride here in Columbus unofficially a few years ago I feel pretty good about the Cleveland thing. I was however worried about how I would do with the Hot Pink show. I really had never shot a night club show at all. That is why I agreed to do it partly for the experience and to see what pictures came out of it. As with any learning experience somethings I thought would work did not and some anticipated challenges turned out not to be challenges at all.

One of the hardest things about these kind of things is always just going to be physically finding your place. You can’t go behind the crowd because then they are in your shot and standing often puts you in their way. Which one asshole was nice enough to let me know in a not so nice way. I ended up moving around a bit for the different acts but spent a large part of the night crouched on the floor near the stage. This isnt always a good angle so I still had to move around a bit. Which is also harder than the studio because there are people to bump into.

Once I played around and found the settings I could make work on the camera the actual shooting wasnt that bad at all. Though it was constant for the whole line of performances (there were 20 or so).

The show was grand and I am so glad I did shoot it. You can see more photos of it here. After the party Bella, Natasha and I hung out at Dirty Franks with Viva Valezz and Co. Good times.

I’m looking forward to pride next month in cleveland that should be quite the party.

So everynow and then I spend hours and hours I dont have on a new site design. But I learn so much everytime I do. The new epo site is completly integrated into a wordpress platform. This should make updating it much easier in the future. It also allows for better access, even updates from my phone which is pretty fun and awesome.

This new site will also change how I handle the portfolio galleries. I am still working on fleshing them out, but each one has its own page instead of simply a slideshow.

All the old content still came along to the new site so if you go through the archives you will find the vestigal tails of several sites and blogs I have had over the years (all the way back to early 2007 my blogs before that are all lost sadly)

I sometimes put it that I am a “project oriented” person. I am a workaholic and between my job and my photo studio I geneally am moving between multitudes of projects and tasks everyday. Typically I handle this all fine but it does burn me out and occasionally I crash. Last week really fell apart for me. its like a row of dominoes, once one thing gets. Bumped the whole week goes downhill.

I try to be better about not over scheduling myself, about leaving time but then something somes up and I try to squeeze it in using the time that was meant for me to unwind. Which is what I am here doing with the projects I dropped the ball on last week I am trying to find the space to fit them into this week.

Then there are the things with no deadlines that need to be done that I keep kicking down the field. What I could use is a pa to keep me going where I need to go, but I need much more money before I can do that. Cleaning person will come first anyway I suck at that.

Amanda Fucking Palmer

How much have I fallen in love with Amanda Palmer? Quite a bit. Since being introduced to her music months ago I have probably listened to Guitar Hero 100 times or so. I would even pay to go see her in concert and I dont really like concerts.

From her lyrics to the imagery in her videos I can’t get enough. Friends around me might be getting annoyed with how much I have been playing her at shoots and such (its always a competition between Palmer Gaga and IAMX at shoots lately). Her music energizes and inspires me and I cannot get enough.
