This happens much more often than people will ever be aware of. Preview editors often use similar themed films as templates in their efforts to recreate the mood and pace of the previous film’s commercial success. When a film has a predecessor such as a prequel, etc. it just makes finding a template that much easier.

Bonus bit of info: The theme to Edward Scissorhands is THE most used piece of movie preview music out there. Why? Because it seems to form itself around the mood of whatever genre preview it is applied to and then intensify that mood. I suppose in that sense it’s magical, not bad for a film dubbed as magical and whimsical.

I’m really glad you put this show together! It was nice to see all of the prints on display like that.. ones I recognize as an early part of your port, when I first discovered you and wanted so much to work with you.. and later ones that included me . The stuff from BoMA was great too.
